With a newborn at home, it was time to look for a larger vehicle. I've been an Audi driver for the last 12 years with the exception of 3 years with a BMW 335. My favorite car was my 2005 Audi S4. Long story short; these cars were both reasonably fast. With that, I was a little nervous about cashing in performance for size. I did my homework on the usual websites and got a short list of the small SUV's that were well reviewed and within my budget. This list included : the Ford Escape, Nissan Murano, Volkswagen Toureg, Acura RDX, Infiniti EX35, and the Audi Q5. I took the time to test-drive all of the cars on my list. I was immediately impressed with the Acura RDX. It was incredibly well equipped for the price. I drove both the 2012 and 2013 models. Whereas both cars drove well; there was a noticeable improvement in the 2013 model. The 2013 was slightly more comfortable and the engine had a smoother transition between gears. The major selling point was the fact that the 2013 RDX has a 273 hp V6 engine that gets 28 miles per gallon and takes regular unleaded as opposed to the 2012 that is a tubo-charged V4 that gets 22 miles per gallon and takes premium unleaded. The 2013 V6 drove more like my old Audi and BMW. I felt like the vehicle had power to spare and did the 0-60 in impressive time. That coupled with the economic advantages with the fuel costs, and beautiful styling made for a quick sale at the Acura dealership.
